Eastern and Northern Samar PLGU, MLGU, DSWD Enters into MOA Signing for Kalahi-CIDSS Implementation

Another milestone marks the Kalahi-CIDSS implementation in the region when the local chief executives of the Provincial Local Government Units (PLGUs) of Eastern and Northern Samar, together with selected Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) of said provinces, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for implementation of the project.

Partnerships were formalized on May 8 for Eastern Samar and May 10 for Northern Samar provinces. The municipalities involved are Dolores, Llorente and Gen McArthur for Eastern Samar; and Bobon, Catarman, Lavezares and Lope de Vega for Northern Samar.

Northern Samar Governor Paul Daza declared full support for the project, saying the province has allocated ten percent of the 30 percent requirement for the Local Cash Counterpart or LCC.

“Kalahi-CIDSS is one of the most important programs of DSWD, and I am glad that these four municipalities of my province were selected for implementation this year,” Gov. Daza added.

Eastern Samar Governor Conrado Nicart, Jr. also pledged to support the implementation of the project in his province. He stated that he will discuss with the three Mayors of the concerned municipalities on how they could come up with an agreement on the provision of the LCC.

Students’ Grant-In-Aid Program For Pantawid Pamilya

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (Pantawid Pamilya) joined hands with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in implementing a student financial assistance program known as the Students’ Grants-in Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (SGP-PA).

The SGP-PA aims to contribute to National Government’s thrusts in effectively addressing poverty alleviation by increasing the number of graduates in higher education among poor households, and to get graduates employed in high-value added occupations in order to lift their families out of poverty and contribute to national development.

In Region 8, there are 55 identified municipalities with 330 potential beneficiaries for the SGP-PA program. Each municipality has six slots for scholarship.

Leyte PLGU and MLGUs, DSWD FO 8 Inks Partnership for Kalahi-CIDSS Implementation

The Leyte Provincial Government Unit (PLGU), Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Eight (DSWD FO 8) formally sealed their partnership for the implementation of the Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

Local Chief Executives of the Municipalities of Abuyog, Babatngon, Barugo, Matag-ob and Tanauan, Leyte participated in the said event – all are Kalahi-CIDSS area for 2012 implementation in Leyte.

DSWD CONSULTATION – DIALOGUES W/ LOCAL OFFICIALS, POs ON BIG TICKET PROGRAMS SET

The DSWD Field Office Eight will be holding consultation dialogues with the provincial/city/municipal social welfare and development officers, municipal treasurers and auditors, as well as presidents of the federation of senior citizens associations and chairpersons of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) of the cities and municipalities of Leyte, Biliran, and Southern Leyte provinces, on May 22 to 23 in Macrohon, Southern Leyte.

The two – day back-to-back activity is one move of the Department to better deal with issues and concerns affecting the implementation of the DSWD ‘s big ticket programs like the Social Pension for indigent  Senior Citizens, Supplementary Feeding program for Day Care Children and Rice Subsidy for the Marginalized Farmers and Fisherfolk. These will include the proper disbursement and liquidation of program funds in the various cities and municipalities of said provinces.

The Kapit-Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) Chief Infrastructure Engineer Sareth Tingzon of the National Project Management Office congratulated the residents of the two communities in Tabontabon, Leyte for the completion of two Kalahi-CIDSS sub-projects: a drainage system in Brgy. Aslum and a concrete pathwalk in Brgy. Cambucao.
